In light of the recent developments that have returned calm and normalcy to the nation’s football governing body, football activities that were placed on an indefinite hold pending the resolution of the conflict have been scheduled to begin in earnest. The leadership of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the League Management Company, made the announcement on Tuesday that league activities will begin on September 2, and is expected to end on October 28.

All teams have just one month to play about 8 matches which will involve travelling back and forth from one end of the country to another for some teams in the NPFL.

This ridiculous fixture has been severely criticized by both players and fans as many have regarded it as a total disregard for the welfare and state of mind of the players and teams in the league.

According to reports by the NAN, the reason for the release of the crowded fixtures by the LMC is to adapt to the new football calendar approved by CAF. The calendar is to accommodate the African Cup of Nation which has been moved from January to June in line with the European countries football calendar.

A source [MFM player], who chose to be anonymous told the NAN that the crowded fixture will only have an adverse effect on the league, “This is not what we want, these fixtures will cause a lot of players their health and many may have injuries as a result. What about jet lag? I assure you that they won’t get anything good out of the league or maybe the champions have been decided already,” he said.
