ict Over 70 non-governmental organizations gathered at Hotel Ibis, Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday, June 5, 2014 for the ICT training, networking and information sharing event for non-governmental organizations tagged ‘MICROSOFT NGO CONNECTION DAY’. This event has held in North Central Nigeria (Abuja 2011), South West (Lagos 2012), and South South (Calabar 2013). According to Mr. Tope Ogundipe, COO Paradigm Initiative Nigeria; “The NGO space is changing as everything else. NGOs need to be equipped with the applicable technologies required to make their work relevant and effective in the 21st century. Microsoft NGO Connection Day provides free training and support to NGOs based on the Microsoft Digital Literacy Standard Curriculum. The training curriculum also covers internet safety and security, social media tools and website/blog development and management,” she said. The event also featured presentations by David Barnard, Vice President Africa, TechSoup Global; Korede Asuni from TechLooms South Africa; Ugo Nwosu, Rockefeller Stakeholder Development Officer, Nigeria and Ghana; and Antony Cook, General Counsel Microsoft, Middle East and Africa. “The sessions were very engaging and from feedback, the participants found the event quite beneficial. I found all the sessions very helpful especially the training on the use of social media tools.” says Stephen Adebisi of Leap Africa. The training was held to enlighten and inspire non-profit organizations as they continue in their work to solve problems in the community through various innovative ideas. Tope added, “Every year, one of the most significant outcomes of the NGO Connection Day is that it provides non-profit organizations a platform to network, share ideas and collaborate.”
