Operation Return Cycling To Edo State has received a huge boost following the naming of a 12-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the championship scheduled to run from the 18
th to 23
rd August 2018.
Spokesman of the event, Osaretin Emuz, disclosed that the CEO of Neo Media, Mr Ehi Braimah will be heading the LOC as its chairman, supported by two Vice Chairmen, the Edo state commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Osaze Osemwegie-Ero as first vice chairman and his Sports, Youth and Special Duties colleague, Mika Amonokhai as the second vice.
Other members of the committee include the Technical Director of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Bashir Mohammed, Secretary General of CFN, Shama Alitu Makpa, Patrick Omorodion, Vincent Braimah, Osaretin Emuze and three others to be nominated by the Edo state government.
The five-day event will take place across eight local government areas of the state and the feature attendance of over 200 cyclists from all across the nation.
In a statement earlier released by Braimah, he solicited the support of indigenes of the state home and abroad, stating that the people have neglected the sport in the state, thus the very visible decline.
“[The committee] is prepared to help revive the sport and encourage our youths to return to cycling. We have the talents and we need to fish them out. [The aim of the event] is to return cycling to Edo state because it has been on sabbatical for over a decade now. The Tour will bring back old memories of Edo cyclists who dominated the Nigerian scene from the early ’70s till 2006 when Osazee Owen won over seven medals at the Gateway Games in Abeokuta.”

More support is needed for the Cycling Tour to be a huge success in the state and the LOC knows this following their appeal to the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, local government chairmen, stakeholders, telecommunication and oil companies and indigenes in and out of the state to support “Operation Return Cycling to Edo state”.
