It’s about the end of the season for the Nigerian Professional Football league. The season has been especially thrilling for fans and players as well. In my opinion, this season took a turn similar to a very popular TV series ‘Game of Thrones’, where ‘no one is safe.’ ? We saw teams that started out on top, on a winning streak both home and away, recede into relapse. One of such teams is Senate President Bukola Saraki’s ‘Wiki Tourists’, who started out on top of their game and kept fans agog for a while but are currently fighting relegation with the likes of ABS, Gombe United and Remo Stars. Rangers and Enyimba who have won the title seven times each, as well as Rivers United who had a pre-season in Spain and recruited some of the best talents in the country; were the favorites at the beginning stages of the season, they were the most predicted to take the title or be at the very top. The teams currently topping the league table are Plateau United at 63 points and MFM just one point below. Throughout the season, this teams have seen victories and losses but have remained on top, Plateau has always been in the lead except on four occasions when MFM topped the tables and it lasted for only so long. Plateau United will face Rangers on Saturday, 9 September 2017, who they had won only once in their last five meetings; Rangers captain Elisha Golbe told NPFL.NG: “We are battle ready, we are looking forward to lifting the league title. The game against Rangers is like a cup final for us and we are taking it very seriously. We have not come this far to miss out on the trophy.” Plateau United have also failed to win their last three matches, with 2 losses and 1 draw, so we expect their game with Rangers to be a very tough one. MFM will face Elkanemi Warriors on Saturday, the odds are in the favour of the Warriors who have not lost any home game, 31 in total, analysts say the title has already been won by Plateau United because the Warriors may most definitely win against MFM. Saturday promises to be very thrilling as the scuffle will come to a final end for the season. Plateau United and MFM have a sure spot in the CAF champions league. But who will sit on the Iron throne come Saturday? Plateau United or MFM …
