  The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has named Super Falcons of Nigeria and FC Barcelona Femini of Spain forward, Asisat Oshoala, as the Best African Woman Player of the Decade from 2011-2020.

The organization (IFFHS) which was established by Alfredo Pöge in Leipzig, Germany, on March 27, 1984, is notable for chronicling the records and history of association football. Within the period of consideration for the award, Oshoala has been outstanding at the club and international levels. Her breakthrough year (2014) saw her emerge the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in Canada, a tournament Nigeria finished in second place. Oshoala also won the Nigerian Women’s League in 2014 with Rivers Angels. She broke into the Nigerian national women’s football team and has so far helped the team to win 2014, 2016, and 2018 editions of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).

Aside from winning the women league title at the domestic front with Rivers Angels, she has extended her exploits abroad. In 2016, she won the English women’s FA Cup with Arsenal, the Chinese Super League in 2017 with Dalian Quanjian, and has continued her dominance in women’s football at FC Barcelona where she has clinched the Spanish women’s league and Super Cup with Barcelona (2020). Her performances have earned her numerous awards such as the African Women’s Footballer of the Year on four occasions (2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019). Reacting to the award, Oshoala took to her Instagram page to thank IFFHS, her family, teammates, coaches, and her agent.
