Nigerian female wrestlers had a memorable day on Saturday at the ongoing All Africa Games in Brazzaville as they won four gold and three silver medals in their respective categories, increasing Nigeria’s medal haul. Adekuoroye Odunayo 53kg, Opuene Patience 55kg, Aminat Adeniyi 58kg, and Blessing Okorududu 63kg all took home gold medals in their weight categories. The three silver medals were won by the remaining wrestlers, Ebi James 60kg, Hannah Reuben 69kg, and Blessing Onyebuchi 75kg. According to Daily Trust, the President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation and Technical Director of Nigeria Olympics Committee, Hon. Daniel Igali was elated and praised the female wrestlers for their efforts. “This was a super day for Team Nigeria. This is an uncommon feat and we are really inspired to do more in future competitions. I attribute this fine display to the determination of the wrestlers. Most of them were determined to defend their titles and they did that in grand style. Moreover, we had adequate preparations for the games. The National Sports Commission ensured we had the right preparations. I am a proud president,” he said.
