It is the last weekend in July, and here are the movies that held it down in cinemas this month.
Lara & The Beat
A coming of age movie about the young and beautiful Giwa sisters caught in the midst of a financial scandal that rocks their late parents’ media empire. The sisters are forced out of their affluent comfort zone and must learn to build their own fortune as they redeem their family name. Lara (Seyi Shay) in the process finds Sal aka the Beat (Vector) who helps her find her voice, thus beginning her musical journey.
The Biola Alabi movie explores the themes of love, loss, drama, betrayal, family, friendship fashion and very importantly, music.
Lara and the Beat was directed by Tosin Coker and produced by Tolu Olusoga.
Payday
Payday follows the story of Paul and Ortega, two best friends and flatmates, whose landlord suddenly dies just before they are about to renew their rent for the year, and seemingly without any heir apparent. The young men throw caution to the wind, exploring every bit of the unfortunate but good opportunity to enjoy themselves. They go on an extravagant night out. Unfortunately, they get the shocker of their life when the landlord’s daughter shows up the next morning and gives a 24-hour notice for them to pay up or move out.
The movie features Baaj Adebule, Bisola Aiyeola, Ebiye Victor, Frank Adekunle, Zack Orji Mawuli Gavor and Meg Otanwa.
Black Rose
Black Rose is a movie by Okechukwu Oku. It follows the story of Rose whose desire for a better life without giving up her dignity seems to be in the person of Desmond. Their differences notwithstanding, she falls hopelessly in love with from the first time she sees him. Soon she is engulfed in his world even though she would rather not be.
It stars Blossom Chukwujekwu, Ebele Okaro, Lilian Echelon, Betty Belor and JKA Swanky. Written by: Beth Rogers, Produced and Directed by Okechukwu Oku.
Midnight Crew
A young cybercriminal gets a 4-year jail term after he is picked up by the anti-draft agency – EFCC, a short whole after duping an unsuspecting victim of a huge sum of money. At the expiration of his jail term, he tries to retrieve the money which he had hidden away before going to jail.
Midnight Crew is a production of Certified Films Production, produced by Sadiq Sule. It stars Charles Okocha and Josh2funny.
