  Nigerian football legend and former Chelsea FC of England midfielder, Mikel Obi, has expressed his desire to impact his winning mentality on his Stoke City teammates after joining the club as a free player on Monday, August 17, 2020. Mikel, 33, became a free player since March 2020, after he fell out with the hierarchy at Turkish club, Trabzonspor FC, for speaking out against Turkish Super Lig fixtures amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The Nigerian is already looking forward to life in Staffordshire and wants his new team to win on a consistent basis if they want to stand a chance to gain promotion into the English Premier League. A disappointing 15th place finishes in the 2019/2020 Sky Bet Championship season, meant Stoke were just eight points clear of the relegation zone. Recruiting Mikel is part of the Potters bid to have an impressive outing due to his experience and elegant style of play which saw him win the English Premier League twice with Chelsea.
