The month of June 2018 will mark the 5th Anniversary of
Making of Champions (MoC), and to commemorate this, the company has announced the maiden edition of the
MoC Grand Prix scheduled to run from
Tuesday 12th to Wednesday 13th June at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Lagos.

According to Making of Champions, there will be over ₦600,000 in prize money to be won across 21 Track & Field Events, including the men’s and women’s 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 100/110m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles on the Track. The Field events will include the men’s and women’s Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump as well as the men’s Shot Put and Javelin, women’s Shot Put and Hammer Throw. The Track & Field Events at the 1st MoC Grand Prix have been classified into Gold, Silver and Bronze Events.
The Top 3 finishers in the Gold Events will win ₦20,000, ₦15,000 and ₦10,000, with the podium placers in the Silver Events taking home ₦15,000, ₦10,000 and ₦5,000, and the Top 3 in Bronze Events leaving with ₦10,000, ₦6,000 and ₦4,000.

Bambo Akani, stated that the reason for the Grand Prix is not just to celebrate the 5th anniversary if Making of Champions in Nigeria but also to create a platform for Nigerian athletes to showcase their skill, compete with others and prepare to represent Nigeria in international events.
“It’s been a tough year for Athletes in Nigeria, especially with the dearth of competitions since the Commonwealth Games, but we wanted to show our support to the AFN by hosting a competition to help keep Nigerian Athletes active ahead of the African Championships in Asaba.
“Of course Nigeria’s top Junior and Youth Athletes can also attend the Grand Prix in their final preparations for the World U20 Championships in Finland and the African Youth Games in Algeria, both in July. I spoke with the AFN President (Hon. Ibrahim Gusau) earlier this week and he expressed his support for the event and thanked us in our continuing efforts to support Nigerian Athletics.” he continued, “Hopefully, in future years we will be able to get the MoC Grand Prix into the AFN Calendar from the start of the year, as that would give us more time to plan, find sponsors and offer even more prize money than we are in this inaugural edition!”
