The National Commission for Museums and Monuments in Lagos has revealed that it had 27,592 visitors in the first half of 2013, up from 23,550 visitors in the same period of 2012. Visitors comprised 731 foreigners, 3,933 adults and 22,928 students, the Head of Education Department of the commission, Emmanuel Omotosho, said. He revealed that, “Students are our major visitors. We experienced an improvement in patronage by foreigners this period compared to the corresponding period in 2012. The foreigners appreciated artworks in the museum and showed interest in patronising Nigerian artists.” “More artefacts have been brought to the museum for exhibition, representing an improvement over what we had in 2012. The commission has been working closely with stakeholders, investors and corporate bodies to upgrade the museum to international standards.” “The Ford Foundation has shown interest in partnering with the commission to develop the museum. The idea is to boost patronage and make the museum more befitting for relaxation and enjoyment,” he told News Agency of Nigeria during a recent interview.
