lekki_epe_road   Two communities within the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos- Epe-Lagoon and Lekki Coastal Area Development Associations have received Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) for 750 hectares of land in the Lekki Free Zone area. Epe-Lagoon Area Development Association got C of O for 375.03 hectares while Lekki Coastal Area Development Association Resettlement Community got C of O for 375.09 hectares. According to the state government, the presentation of the C of O was the fulfillment of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Government and the communities towards the development of the Free Zone. “The presentation of C of Os to the communities is in fulfillment of the promise made earlier to the communities. In fact one of the problems that we had in the past was that they complained that they needed land to farm and engage in other activities. So now that they have a land of their own, they can now engage in their own activities while the investors come and invest in the Zone”, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Olusola Oworu, said in a statement. She also stated that the government had earlier ceded 39 hectares to the people and paid compensation to the communities all in line with the state’s obligations to the communities under the MOU adding that investments in the Lekki Free Zone would not only provide jobs to the huge number of unemployed people in the state but would boost the production of made-in-Nigeria goods. “We are doing a lot to create employment for our people. We are doing everything possible to ensure that we encourage investors to come and invest in the Lekki Free Zone. That way, we will create jobs for our unemployed people while we develop our State”, said the Commission. Mrs. Oworu further disclosed that the Lekki Free Zone Development Company was also embarking on a temporary Power Plant to boost economic activities in the area adding that by October this year, the plant would be ready. “We are also embarking on a temporary Power Plant to serve the zone so that new investors coming in will have light. By October this year the plant will be ready. If they have light, the environment will be more conducive for them and activities are bound to accelerate”, she said.
