We find that in our world today, the rewards rather than the effort of consistency are acknowledged. This tends to make people look down on the effort required and crave its rewards but things are not that simple. If a bad habit is repeatedly done, it ends up consistently done even unknowingly. The same result applies to good habits. It is just that with good habits that is consistently done, tremendous benefits are guaranteed as result in the long run. The difficult kick for anyone is the strength to consistently repeat good habits, ignoring discouragements in the form of the effort required for it. This is why we think consistency is an attribute entrepreneurs must imbibe as a character and habit in business. Here is a list of six benefits of consistency that I compiled.
1.
Consistency will eventually pay off: There is nothing like overnight success. For anyone who desires success that will last, hard work and being consistent at what they do will get them there. It might not pay off the first few hours, the first few months, or the first few years but as long as what they are doing is of value and they keep at it, it will give a pay off that will fulfill. It is the little you put in everyday that will eventually equate to success.
2.
Consistency gives you successful days: Consistency helps you keep on at a thing of value. It equals successful days when one can project in to a successful future now as considerable effort is put into each day. We can only measure effectiveness when what is measured is performed consistently. To measure how effective a new idea or initiative is, give it at least six to eight months of consistent performance. Consistency also teaches accountability when it comes to delivering set goals. The time put into an activity through consistency should deliver returns that can be measured.
3.
Consistency becomes a habit: Being referred to as a person who is consistent is a complement that expresses that the person in question is reliable and trustworthy. It is also a good habit that takes people far beyond their present goals and dreams. Being consistent in doing worthwhile activities brings you closer to the success while constantly changing gears and trying new ideas without seeing it through may make you appear unstable. At times, many efforts fail before they get to the finish line sometimes because the team was inconsistent in achieving the set objectives.
4.
Consistency teaches discipline: Every successful person can tell of the benefits of consistency but most importantly, an undecipherable addition to a person who is consistent is that the process of consistency teaches discipline. Being persistent in an endeavor teaches discipline, training that is quite hard to learn when one is aware.
5.
Consistency improves the intensity of focus: Consistency helps one focus on a goal and the process of arriving at it. Prosperity is what happens when the power of focus is employed on a goal. Consistently focusing on a particular dream or goal allows it to open up before our eyes in ways we might not have anticipated. Different and new dimensions start to open up when we focus consistently.
6.
Consistency preserves your message: In the heat of the moment that is full of activities when it is prone to forget the “why” of your activities, consistency guarantees that the “why” is preserved regardless of how busy employees might be to achieve set objectives and goals. Consistency helps preserve the mission and the vision of a company in a way that its activities and participation adds to fulfilling its goals and do not serve as diversion and disorganization.
Tom Rowland- Rees, Owner/Partner at Cinema KpataKpata has this to say about consistency in Business: “Consistency is a key part to any business relationship. Everyone is different; nobody is perfect, but the least one can be is to be consistent in one’s way of doing things then people know exactly what they are getting when they get to work with you.”
