Lagos-Taxi-road-e1403626109564     KabuKabu is a new business initiative which will help commuters in Lagos,Nigeria. This innovative service helps people share rides and split the cost of the fare. The service is unique because it solves the problem of commuters riding in rickety buses (danfo) which most tend to avoid because of body odours, pickpockets and the general inconvenience of waiting. The other option to riding buses is taking cabs, which are usually ridiculously overpriced. As a solution, KabuKabu will save you money and allow you to be comfortable when riding to and from your destination. KabuKabu will collect data from commuters and match two or more riders together travelling on the same route and at the same time. For example, if you live in Iyana Ipaja and work in Ajah, KabuKabu will match other workers along that same route with you and you get to pay less than the normal taxi fares to and fro. This option is also available to car owners who would like to make cash on the side and who don’t mind having extra passengers to ride with them to work daily. It is also good for car owners who simply hate driving in Lagos traffic. Irrespective of the convenience and cost, there is however a concern about not knowing your potential passengers and who you will be commuting with, thus commuters will be required to have all personal information available on the database inclusive of all the cab drivers. KabuKabuwill make money by collecting a commission fee from each taxi driver’s daily trips. The cost of registration is free but passengers will pay once they get to their drop off point. Bookings can be cancelled and complaints can be made if co-riders and drivers are unruly. The cabs will wait at pick up points for ten minutes before moving. Bookings can be done online and by calling designated phone numbers. The service will provide interesting advantages plus a way to network and bond with strangers;you never know, the next great technology can start from meeting someone inside a ‘KabuKabu’. This is a very interesting start up idea which will ease a bit of the transportation problems but the question is, will you hop into a car with people you are unfamiliar with?
