  Nigeria’s sole Judo representative at the 41st African Seniors Championships in Antananarivo, Madagascar, Enku Ekuta, made the nation proud after winning bronze for Nigeria at the tournament. On Friday, December 18, 2020, the Nigerian beat Cape Verde’s Billet Sandrine with an ippon in the 63kg women category to win bronze. Ekuta who got to the semi-final phase after beating Madagascar’s Damiella Nomenjanahary with an ippon lost in the semi-final against Algeria’s Amina Belkadi and settled for the third place.

Notable as one of the key judo competitions on the International Judo Federation (IJF) calendar, the African Seniors Championships also aims to assist eligible judokas to gather points that will help boost their qualification campaign for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics in Japan. With Ekuta’s win, she has added 350 points to her IJF world ranking and improved chances of making it to the Olympics cum 2021. Ekuta did not fail to express her happiness, while she also thanked her sponsors (Acugas) and the Nigeria Judo Federation for support.
