If you want to create headlines that captivate your readers, here are 4 simple steps you can take.

Use Numbers

Numbers are popularly used in headlines because they work. When you include a number in your headline, you tell the reader how long it will take to read. There are really no rules on the numbers that work best. You could use the numbers “4” or “37” as long as your content is well presented and drives home a message

Ask A Question

Humans are curious by nature. When we see a question that applies to us, we immediately feel the urge to find the answers to that question. Using questions as your headlines will have the same effect on your readers. For instance, a person who spends a lot of time on social media would be interested in the question:
“Did you know spending too much time on social media is impacting your mental health”?
Even if they’re not always on social media, the question might still pique their curiosity, urging them to click on it.

Show Them How To Do Something

Headlines that start with “How To” are the most popular on the internet. People always have one problem or the other and are always in need of answers to those problems. Starting your headline with “How To” shows your reader that you understand their problem and you can show them how to fix it in a few steps. If your content delivers on the promise conveyed in the headline, you will gain loyal readers who would become keen on reading more of your content to find more answers to their problems.

Use Adjectives

Adjectives can be a great bonus to your headlines and give your readers a better sense of what your content is about. For instance, “5 Effortless Ways to Create Passive Income” has more impact than “5 Ways to Create Passive Income”. The adjective “Effortless” is more direct and shows the reader that they can implement the steps with minimal effort. Here are some other examples:
  • Powerful
  • Exceptional
  • Effective
  • Incredible
  • Fun
  • Essential
  • Smart
  • Captivating
