More often than not, you cannot guarantee the quality of commercial foods sold in the market. Okwa-Ose is groundnut paste used as an accompaniment with garden egg, kola nut or bitter kola. Make your homemade healthy sauce for your family and on special occasions. It also saves you some money, and you can customize it to suit your taste.

Ingredients

Raw groundnut (small seeds) Smoked shrimps/Crayfish (optional) Dry pepper Ehiri (African nutmeg) Salt or seasoning cube Ehiri seeds

How To Prepare

NB: Groundnuts with small seeds have more oil than those with bigger seeds and form smoother paste. They also make sweeter paste.
  1. Fry your groundnut till it is done. Don’t add salt to the groundnut.
  2. Peel the thin outer cover and pick out the bad seeds.
  3. Fry your dry pepper in an empty pot for few minutes till it darkens a bit. This helps to bring out the flavour.
  4. Fry your Ehiri (African nutmeg).
  5. If you’re using crayfish, fry it too.
  6. Add all the ingredients together and mix with a pinch of salt.
  7. Blend all ingredients together to form a smooth paste. If you don’t have a blender, you can take it to the market, the commercial grinders will give you a smoother paste.
  8. Your sauce is ready.
Serve with garden egg, bitter kola, or kola nut.  You can also spread it on your bread or as a dip for apples.
