After binge eating the whole season, the next question would be how do I get back in shape for the new year? You’ll definitely need a sugar detox after eating all that cake .. hehe. The first thing you want to focus on during this time (detox period) is to keep your body well fed and hydrated. Sugar imbalances hormones, mood, energy, blood sugar and suppresses the immune system. Yes, we’ve heard it more times than we can remember that sugar is addictive, a lot of times its addictive nature has been likened to that of Cocaine. But did you also know that sugar feeds the bad bacteria and cancer cells? Things to Do Stay Hydrated Hydration involves drinking a reasonable amount of water each day. Keeping the body properly hydrated encourages oxygen to flow freely throughout the body. This allows you to be more attentive, alert and focused. Water itself is a powerful detoxifier because it assists the kidneys and colon to eliminate waste. Drink 6-8 glasses (250mL) of water per day. Don’t drink water with meals because it dilutes stomach acid and leads to poor digestion. Add a squeeze of lemon into your water for added benefits and some flavour. Proteins Protein and fat are more difficult to digest, making you feel fuller longer. Eating tons of sugar creates a cycle of low blood sugar, so eat food high in protein. Excercise You can’t take this out of the equation, it’s as necessary as taking water. You’ll need to exercise your body to burn the extra calories you accumulated during your binge eating. Veggies Take a lot of vegetables during your detox period. Vegetables contain an array of antioxidants and phytonutrients that all have specific jobs to keep the body healthy, the skin vibrant and shiny and the eyes strong.
