Well, the issue of national identity cards is one thing many middle-class Nigerians agree these two statements apply to-because they just never happen.

Many have been stuck with slips which serve as temporary ID usually laminated for protection from wear and tear. Two years ago, the authorities announced they will be rolling out electronic IDs (e-ID) to about 70 million Nigerians by the next year, 2019. Somehow, they are still “looking into the matter” and obviously are “on top of the situation”.

So while we wait, our benevolent telcos have partnered with NIMC to allow citizens to at least be able to check their NIN (National Identification Number) numbers by dialling the USSD code, *346# from the phone number registered to your voter’s card, BVN or drivers’ license.
