Young professionals and senior managers discover when it is too late that their social network diminishes as their financial net worth increases.
  1. Set Priorities

Certain priorities cannot be overemphasised. Without priorities, it is easy to lose focus on important things. Most professionals prioritise office work as compulsory because there are deadlines and tangible repercussions but because social life does not have similar tangible consequences, they back shelve it. To avoid making money and losing friends, it is important to set your personal repercussion for ignoring the priority of the social life.
  1. Compartmentalise

As counterintuitive as this might sound, it is important to compartmentalise your life into work life and social life. The saying goes, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. The same goes for balancing work life and social life, it is important to not transfer aggression from work to social life nor transfer disappointment and heartbreak from social life to work. It goes without saying, however, that professionals should learn to fully embrace each aspect of their lives. They should learn to fully embrace the joy that comes from social life and learn to do their best at work.

  1. Use Apps

Thanks to the Internet, there are numerous apps that set reminders, give suggestions and ring alarms that allow users to have a seamless interface between work and life. These reminders keep professionals in sync with important events in their social life. Sometimes, the nature of their work can cause forgetfulness. It is therefore important to have these apps handy to help with scheduling and setting timers. Some of these platforms offer free or paid services. Whatever your budget can cover, it is important that professionals should have apps that make their life easy, then balancing work and social life become a convenience rather than a chore. With regards to all the above, it is pertinent that professionals work to find the place of flexibility. This is because while these tips are important, flexibility is more important. It allows them to flow between both areas of their lives without causing serious disruptions. In addition, there should always be a balance that can only be achieved when the people at both end of the spectrum are intentional about understanding the demands of the opposite spectrum. So, this also goes without saying that the professional in question should not just expect compliance from both ends but should intentionally set out to bring them to a place of understanding the implications of both the work and social roles.
