Body aches are painful. Waking up feeling as though you’ve been pushed down the stairs and your body dragged across a stadium is not the ideal. Our bodies go through a lot every day, long hours in traffic followed by longer hours in the office. All of this makes getting up every day  an ordeal, and  performing even the slightest physical activity leaves one exhausted. Body aches sometimes indicate that there may be an inherent medical issue, of which it’ll be important to find the cause and proceed with treatment. There are natural remedies to this that does not involve popping painkillers.

Some common causes of body aches may include:

  • Stress
  • Dehydration
  • Insufficient sleep
  • Pneumonia
  • Arthritis
  • Infections like  flu and  common cold

Stay Hydrated

Dehydration is one of the causes of body aches, especially during the flu. This happens because our tissues aren’t as fluid and supple as they should be, making it difficult for the body to flush out inflammation and wastes. Drinking enough  fluids like  herbal teas is a great way to aid the body’s natural detoxification processes during illness.

Essential Oils

Essential oils have powerful analgesic properties that help reduce inflammation and penetrate deep into the skin to sooth the pain. They also stimulate circulation and fight off infection by boosting the immune system. For best use of these essential oils, dilute them effectively in a carrier oil (e.g.: coconut oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil) and apply it to areas with the most soreness, avoiding sensitive areas.

Balms

Herbal balms bring about relief by helping to numb nerve endings and consequently increasing blood flow to the area, causing ease.

Proper medical check up

Sometimes body aches are as a result of an underlying issue, this makes it of utmost importance to have a proper medical check up in order to decipher the ailment and commence treatment.
