Like it began just yesterday, 2018 is almost over.

We all have dreams and aspirations. Do you want to go back to school? Do you want to start that business or get that promotion at work?

What are you going to do in 2019 to ensure that you move closer to your dreams? What can you do differently?

Save more

“Money answereth all things.” — King Solomon

Money matters!

It really is easier said than done but you’ve got to save more money. Money does “answer all” and you need it to pay those fees, kick-start that business, buy that plot of land, etc.

There will always be “unexpected expenses” where our vehicles, health or families are concerned, but the truth is that saving for a rainy day is never a bad idea.

Some of the reasons we don’t save as much as we ought to:

  • “Unexpected expenses” (see above).
  • Spending more than we earn.
  • Eating out when there is food at home.
  • Buying aso ebi or clothes/shoes on credit when you know you can’t afford them.
  • Rinsing out your data watching YouTube or Instagram videos that add little value and then having to reload on data three to four times a month.

The fact is, you have to be disciplined when it comes to saving more.

Self-care

“Take care of your soul.” — Rebecca Ferguson

When professional athletes have a big event, they know that rest is paramount. Beyond training and practising, they take out time to relax and recoup.

In this Life Race Championship, you have to find time to take care of yourself.  This means having a “you-time” (schedule it in if you have to) where you can shut out the world and do the things you enjoy.

It might be sleeping, reading, cooking, watching a movie, going for a walk, hanging out with friends. Whatever it is that lowers your blood pressure after a long day, do a lot of it in 2019.

The truth is, you can’t function at optimum level if you are not taking care of yourself.

There’s so much wealth to garner inside of books. There are many affordable self-help and motivation-centred books you can dig into to learn more about yourself and the world. If you want 2019 to pan out better than 2018 did, consider spending more time reading and learning.

Spend time with loved ones

“You can’t choose your family. They are God’s gfit to you and you are to them.” — Desmond Tutu

Time waits for no one. Human beings are here today and gone tomorrow. So savour the moments in 2019 and be sure to let your loved ones know that you love them every chance you get.

No Regrets

“Forget regret, or life is yours to miss.” — Jonathan Larson

Enter 2019 with a fresh slate.

Whatever you said you would do in 2018 but couldn’t or didn’t do because you procrastinated from January to December, or because you were “too broke” or “too unlucky” or “too unprepared” – don’t beat yourself up. 2019 is another chance.

Look at your setbacks and the mistakes made in 2018, learn from them and use them as stepping stones to make 2019 better.

If you need to change your circle of friend, change them.

If you need to get out of your comfort zone, get out of your comfort zone.

If you need to focus, focus.

Do whatever you need to do to get where you want to get to in 2019. But whatever you do, don’t wallow in regret.
