I’ve spent considerable time over the years teaching people that whatever they are offering the world – goods or services – will die an untimely and painful death if they don’t network, brand and market properly. Branding and marketing are the vehicles that will propel you to a whole new level; they are the stimuli you need to position you for the patronage that will surely catapult your offerings to heights that might even confound you by exceeding your otherwise modest aspirations. Recently, we had a guest in our home – an interior decor professional whose business had fallen on bad times. Over lunch, he lamented bitterly about how his business had taken a bitter hit. He could hardly make ends meet, and believed that merely injecting fresh funds into his ailing enterprise would breathe new life into it. I spent considerable time discussing with him, a concept he had only ‘known’ in passing, but had never considered as important to his line of work: branding.

Branding

Do you have a logo? Do you have a business name? Do you know how social media can project your goods and services? He answered all these questions and more in the negative. What can  branding really do for you? – A good brand gives your goods and services a relatable identity. Customers can see them at one glance because branding confers an attractive personality on whatever you are offering. – Branding builds customer loyalty and trust, and enhances awareness even when you are not engaged in an active marketing campaign. A brand is a never-ending marketing campaign. – A good brand helps in advertising in an easier way because it enhances product recognition. The product gains respect and is able to command even higher prices. – A good brand hastens new product acceptability. Meticulous branding aims at making the product/service more appealing and relevant to the target audience. It projects all the valuable attributes of the product to the customer. The whole idea is to set the product apart from the competitor and carve an enviable market share.
