Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, made this information known during the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 briefing on Monday, January 25, 2021. Noting that the management of the NYSC cannot afford to risk the lives of corps members, Mr Dare further disclosed that affected corps members would be posted to adjoining states, and also emphasized on the need for camps to work in line with materials approved by the NCDC in the fight against the virus.
‘Going forward, any state that refuses to cooperate fully in the aspect of COVID-19 protocol adherence, full testing using the Rapid Diagnostic Test kits and data management by the NCDC and also the trained doctors, will have its orientation camp shut down.’ Sunday Dare
It will be recalled that during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, orientation camps were shut down in all parts of the federation as part of lockdown measures to curb the spread of the virus. With the second wave hitting Nigeria really hard, just like some other nations, the government is trying to avoid another lockdown to save the economy.
