About a year ago, Nigeria became the first African country to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, after a thrilling performance against Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo. One goal was all the difference between the team that went on to play in Russia and the team that stayed back. The first half of the game was a battle for dominance that the Zambians won, however, they were unable to make good on any of their chances until the end of the half. The Super Eagles regained their form in the second half, and this was when the game truly began for both sides. Coach Gernot Rohr, introduced ace Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi for Simon Moses, and the game soon turned in favor of the Nigerian side. Victor Moses and Shehu Abdullahi finished off a great combo move before setting up Iwobi, who netted a clean finish in the 73rd minute of an open contest. The Chipolopolo, in need of two goals at this point, tried all they could at an equalizer, but failed each time — leaving the Super Eagles to walk away with a very well deserved win, and qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
