Blessing Okagbare set two meeting records in the women’s Long Jump and 200m events at the 2014 IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai, China.
Okagbare made an impressive leap of 6.86m (+0.1) in round 1, ahead of national record holder, Ivana Spanovic of Serbia (6.85m, +0.3), to move second on the 2014 world list.
Germany’s Sosthene Moguenara, finished in third place with a leap of 6.79m (+0.6), while Sweden’s Erica Jarder, replicated her Personal Best (PB) of 6.66m to finish in fourth place.
Still in the first round, Russian world leader, Darya Klishina, was not in top form as she produced a rather lackluster jump of 6.62m to finish fifth.
Two hours after Okagbare set her women’s jump meeting record, the Nigerian, who skipped her last three jump attempts to rest, made another meeting record of 22.36s in the women’s 200m event, just five hundredths outside her personal best.
The Nigerian dominated the blistering encounter with a riveting performance that set her on a class of her own as she smoothly cruised past her opponents to take home the win.
Double world junior champion, Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas, was a close second with a time of 22.50s, 0.46s ahead of American sprinter, Kimberlyn Duncan.
Former World and Olympic champion, Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown, was fifth with a time of 23.08s.
