  Nigerian fashion lovers have not been able to get over the drop-dead gorgeous wedding dress that has flooded the internet. The statement wedding dress was created by Oluwagbemisola Okunlola, a UK-based Nigerian designer who majorly specialises in creating custom wedding dresses.

Danielle Brooks in Oluwagbemisola Okunlola’s creation

The wedding dress was created for Danielle Brooks, The Orange Is the New Black star who tied the knot with her childhood sweetheart, Dennis Gelin. She wore the statement dress as her second wedding dress for her exquisite wedding. Brooks described the dress as a ‘flesh-toned mesh with custom embroidery and big huge skirt: the dress of my dreams’. She definitely couldn’t get over the dress.

Oluwagebemisola was more than excited when Brooks contacted her team for the job. Talking about how she met Brooks, Oluwagbemisola said in an interview with EBONY ” We actually got in contact with Danielle through a referral from a concierge service we were familiar with that planned Danielle’s wedding’.  She also revealed that Brooks invited her to her wedding.

What differentiates the custom wedding dress from others is the way the lace blended on Brooks’s skin to create a timeless statement. One beautiful thing is that it has overturned the seeming repetitive recycling of wedding dresses and has enacted a challenge for fashion designers. More importantly, it has erased the notion that women of colour cannot shine as much in their wedding dresses. The dress is now an internet sensation as many positive reviews keep rolling in. Oluwagebemisola has no doubt written her name in capital letters in the fashion world both locally and internationally.
