Women across the globe encounter a myriad of challenges, ranging from gender-based violence and discrimination to economic inequalities and limited access to healthcare. In Africa, these challenges are often compounded by cultural norms, societal expectations, and systemic barriers, making it even more crucial to prioritize women’s mental health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health disorders disproportionately affect women, with common issues including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, due to stigma and lack of resources, many women do not seek help or receive adequate support for their mental health struggles. Through heartfelt conversations and listening to the stories of women from diverse backgrounds, FriendnPal gained insights into the pressing issues affecting women’s lives. From the rural villages to bustling urban centres, the struggles were varied yet shared: navigating trauma, managing stress, and finding resilience in the face of adversity. This initiative aims to address the unique challenges and struggles that women face, particularly in Africa, and to provide them with the support they need for their mental health and well-being. By offering free therapy sessions to 20 women and a 50% discount to others, FriendnPal is making mental health care more accessible and affordable for women during Women’s Month and beyond.
