  Nigeria Professional Football League giants, Enyimba FC, were beaten 3-0 by Sudanese side, Al Merreikh in their first CAF Champions League game at the Al-Hilal Stadium on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. A sixth-minute effort saw Saifeldin Maki dribble past Enyimba goalkeeper, Bassa Djeri, to gift the hosts the lead. The Peoples Elephant (Enyimba) would struggle from then on as Maki en route a hat-trick made it 2-0 just a minute before the break.

Fatai Osho (Enyimba coach) introduced the duo of Nabil Yarou and Tosin Omoyele, but they proved unproductive as Maki completed his hat-trick in regulation time. Enyimba must overturn the scoreline in the second leg to qualify for the next round of the tournament. Elsewhere, Rivers United beat South African side, Bloemfontein Celtic, 2-0 in a CAF Confederations Cup match held at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday night, December 23. Rivers United started the game on an impressive note after an opening minute shot from Fortune Omoniwari. Three minutes later, Godwin Aguda would shot from close range but also failed to find the back of the net.

The Nigerians would take the lead in the 70th minute through Aguda after a long show of dominance on foreign soil. So far, Aguda has found the back of the net twice for Rivers United in the continental championship this season.
