Oftentimes, we spend so much on things we can actually prepare at home within a few minutes at little or no cost. You can make amazing varieties of syrups that suit your taste and meet your needs. Here are recipes for three homemade syrups:

Date Syrup

Homemade Dates Syrup.

Homemade date syrups are delicious and without artificial preservatives. It’s healthy for babies and can be introduced to them after 8 months as a healthy sweetener for their foods and purees.

In place of sugar, you can also use it to sweeten your desserts, or use as a spread for bread, pancakes, and other baked foods.


  • Dates – 1 cup
  • Water – 1 cup

How to Prepare

  1. Remove the seeds from the dates and wash once.
  2. Soak the dates in 1 cup of hot water for 10 minutes until the dates are soft enough.
  3. Heat it for about 2 minutes so that it’s easy enough to mash.
  4. Mash the dates well with your hands and squeeze out the water completely.
  5. Strain using a cheesecloth to extract the water from the dates. Pour the water into a saucepan and discard the date’s chaff.
  6. Boil the water until it becomes quite dark and thick like honey. Use low to medium heat and stir it occasionally to avoid burning at the bottom.
  7. Store in a glass container in the refrigerator for up to 2 to 3 weeks.

Simple Sugar Syrup

Simple sugar syrup is an ingredient generally used in many cocktails and to make other non-alcoholic beverages. It contains no fat and cholesterol but has a great number of calories. White granulated sugar is the standard sweetener, but you can also use other sugars.


  • 1 cup white sugar (granulated)
  • 1 cup water

How to Prepare

  1. Mix sugar and water in a saucepan.
  2. Boil the mixture and stir until the sugar has dissolved. It will form a gelatinous substance.
  3. Allow to cool.
  4. Use or store in a glass jar and keep refrigerated. It can stay for up to 3 weeks.

Honey Syrup

Lovers of honey can make this syrup by simply swapping honey for sugar in the simple sugar syrup recipe.
