Nigeria’s largest association of comic book publishing houses and animation studios, the Collective Industry Conventions Africa (CICA), has partnered with US based consulting firm, BIAYA Consulting, to host the inaugural UNICON Convention this November in Lagos, Nigeria. UNICON is an exhibition of the Nigerian creative industry that demonstrates the power, reach and profitability of African content. The industry showcase and summit will engage international and local creative industry stakeholders on the opportunities in the industry, as well as showcase the talent and ingenuity of local creative entrepreneurs.

The global VFX & Games Market was valued at US $254 Billion in 2017, and digital distribution for comic book sales has grown by 20% year over year since 2012. The global opportunities for comic books, especially in this new age of TV, film and animation adaptations and digital distribution, means that the real potential of the creative industry is in the multiple streams of income that can emerge from a single written story, or comic book.

Convention activities will range from gaming competitions and exhibitions, to screenings and panels. Conversations at the convention will focus on evaluating opportunities within the creative industry value chain, including, but not limited to capacity building, project financing and distribution.
