What do you do if you wake up to civil unrest in your state?

Because security has become a major issue in Nigeria, here are some tips on staying safe.

Limit movements

Do not leave your home unless you absolutely have to.

Do not spread unverified news

If you are not sure that the information you received via social media is correct, do not pass it on. This will simply serve to stock the fire of conflict.

Know where loved ones are

Make sure you know where your loved ones are and keep checking in on each other through the day.

Emergency service numbers

Know the phone numbers of emergency services in your state; police, fire department etc.

Important items to stock up on:

  • Food
  • Water
  • Tinned and canned provisions (these have a longer shelf life than fresh food)
  • Call cards/credit
  • Internet/data bundles
  • Fuel (diesel/petrol)
  • Cash – physical cash, not just your debit or credit cards
  • Medical supplies & first aid Kit.
