Our very own Chiwetel Ejiofor, tops nominations for the 2014 Golden Globes award for Steven McQueen’s 12 years a slave. 12 years a slave is a film that gives a tortuous account of American slavery where Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) a free man from New York state was sold into bondage in Louisiana. The movie is in the nomination bags for best Director, best dramatic actor and the crowning best film drama. Chiwetel Ejiofor started out his career as a stage actor before landing a part in the 1997 film, Amistad. Other acting projects followed with Dirty Pretty Things, Serenity, Kinky Boots, Talk To Me, RedBelt and Othello. Nominations tie Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 years a slave) and Idris Elba (Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom) for the best actor alongside Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and Robert Redford (All is Lost). The pair, Ejiofor and Elba, was also nominated for their small screen roles Dancing on the Edge (Ejiofor) and Luther (Elba). Both will be hoping for success in their film and TV categories. At Connect Nigeria, we say, may the best actor win.
