The “Half Of A Yellow Sun” writer is set to add another doctorate degree to her ever-growing award list

Renowned Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is set to receive her 16th honorary doctorate degree from the Belgium’s Catholic University of Louvain. The ceremony is scheduled to hold at the main campus of the academic institution in Louvain-la-Neuve, 20 kilometres from Belgium’s capital city, Brussels on April 28, 2022.

Catholic University of Louvain which is often abbreviated as UCLouvain was founded in 1425 by Pope Martin V, and has established a strong presence as one of the oldest Catholic universities in Europe, and the biggest university in Belgium that is French-speaking. With six campuses located in Belgium and 15 schools/faculties, UCLouvain’s famous alumni include mathematician Vitold Belevich and Queen Mathilde of Belgium. Reacting to the honorary degree set to be conferred on the Nigerian writer, the rector of the university, Vincent Blondel, disclosed that the Academic Council of the institution find Adichie’s work “remarkable in many ways and particularly inspiring for our university community.”

Blondel further disclosed that the Orange Prize for Literature winner is an embodiment of “values that we wish to impart to our students, professors, researchers, and the entire university community. For the new academic year, the university is highlighting the theme, ‘The fragility of truth.’ Adichie’s career, divided between fiction and the reality of struggles against all kinds of oppression, adequately illustrates this theme.” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has bagged honorary degrees from high profile universities around the globe such as Yale University, Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, John Hopkins University, University of Edinburg, Georgetown University, and more.
