Arsenal fans would have hoped for more fight from their team as Manchester City made a clean sweep against the Gunners. Pep Guardiola’s men left Wenger’s men in the dust as they defeated them 3-0 in the Carabao Cup final at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday, taking home a well-deserved trophy; their fifth so far, and Guardiola’s first as City’s manager. Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi was an unused substitute from the first half of the game into the 73rd minute when he came in as a replacement for Aaron Ramsey. At this point, things were not looking any good for the Gunners, with City already three goals up and in no mood to make any slips. Manchester City began the game on a strong note with Leroy Sane’ deflected shot from a corner almost finding the back of the net in the 3rd minute. However, City would not stop at ‘almost’ as Sergio Aguero put in the first goal of the match in the 18′ minute when he successfully finished a Bravo C. assist. Arsenal held off any more goals through the first half. In the 26th minute, Nacho Monreal’s injury would force Arsenal to make an early substitution with Sead Kolasinac as a replacement. In the second half, City showed Arsenal why they came a long way conceding only very few defeats or draws as they broke through Arsenal’s stronghold to double their lead just two minutes before the hour mark by a goal from City Captain V. Kompany assisted by Ikay Gundogan. About 7 minutes later, D. Silver put the trophy beyond Arsenal’s reach when he made it 3-0.
