Some of the unique basic things that entrepreneurs need to understand and practise that can help them in their business are that it is easier to adapt well are self-motivation,  definitive company targets, understand processes and leverage on networks. On Self motivation… One of the things that have helped a lot of successful entrepreneurs is personal conviction and self-motivation especially when the going get’s tough. They continually tell themselves that it may not be easy but they can get through it. This way, they constantly work on their mindset, especially when they are having low moments. They try to have a positive disposition, even when they feel like giving up. They look out for relationships that would help them and develop personal coping mechanisms and strategies. They intentionally lookout for a good network of people around them to share their challenges with and get feedback. They choose those they associate with carefully; people who can help them accomplish their dreams and focus on the important stuff.

On Having Company Targets

When I conceived Leap World, my vision was to take that leap and never to stay small. Right now, my company consults for the Bank of Industry (BOI) Nigeria and at the national level, we are on a growth employment project funded by the World Bank. There are also some strategic schools that we have aligned with and we operate beyond Nigeria through some strategic business alliances. In five years, I see myself truly living the dream of the name Leap World going global, beyond the shores of Nigeria.

I see myself building a high capacity company while impacting lives. It is not just about money. I already try to reflect this part in my corporate social responsibility routine, every year, when regardless of how much I have made, I give back to my community. I ensure that my employees grow individually by training and retraining them, not minding that they may leave me someday. After all, I also left somewhere. The way I see it, it would be a plus for me if I can reap from where I have helped to develop. These are some of my goals and plans. What are yours? Perhaps you should start writing them down.

On Understanding Process

From my experience as a business support consultant, I realized that money is important. There is no doubt about that, but you don’t start out by looking for money. Focus first on meeting a need. If you can meet a need, then people will pay for your solution. And the truth is that you might not make a lot of money from day one. Unfortunately, the challenge is that people want to run before they learn to walk. In starting out, learn from others. If you can, get paid employment and learn before you start yours. Or volunteer as an intern. Get mentors and read their biographies. See how they survived the past. Without capacity, you cannot manage money. Practising these basic principles will help you go far in business and life. What To Do: Go For It! Understand, know, and practice the above principles. You can also discuss with a business mentor and coach too. Featured Image Source: Invoice NG
