The Afrocentric music band –
Bantu, led by Ade Bantu – has returned home, having rounded off its tour of Germany.
Touring
The band embarked on the Germany tour in July, after concluding their West African Tour in April. The tour ended on Sunday 22nd July with a massively attended concert at the YUCA Cclub, Koln.
The tour which held in Hagen, Recklinghausen, Muelheim a.d. Ruhr, Bochum and Cologne featureD a host of international and local acts.
According to the manager of Bantu, Ibrahim Oyetunji, “The band, Bantu displayed a first-class mix of Afrobeat and Hip-Hop that evening.”
Ade Bantu, the founder of the Afrofunk band, considered the tour an homecoming, having been raised in Germany.
Adegoke Odukoya performs as Ade Bantu and is the front-man of the 13 piece band of multi-instrumentalists and vocalists who perform as a collective. He is also the creator of the monthly music Festival and concert,
Afropolitan Vibes, which holds in Lagos
Ade was born to a Nigerian father and German mother and relocated to Germany with his mother after the loss of their father. He grew up in Germany and London before returning to Nigeria to pursue his art. His Bantu band won the
Kora Award, which is considered the pan-African equivalent of the Grammy awards, for their
Fuji Satisfaction album in 2005.
The band’s last album,
Agberos International, was released a year ago, the 10 tracker features Tony Allen and Nigerian spoken word poet,
Wana Wana.
