It was yet another sad game ending for the Nigeria Amputee football team, who lost their second match of the ongoing 2018 Amputee World Cup in Mexico, 3-0 to defending champions, Russia. Since this is the team’s first ever world cup experience, some setbacks were expected. However, a nine goal deficit, just after two games in the group stage, is more than the Nigerian team planned for. In their first game of the tournament, South American champions, Brazil, dealt strongly with the Nigerian team — with a horrifying 6-0 defeat. Following Brazil’s public show of strength over Nigeria, Russia was looking to make a similar spectacle of the team, especially with a few of Nigeria’s best already riddled with injuries. However, a tactical change by coach Victor Nwenwe, helped the Amputee Eagles hold the Russians at 3-0. In other group games, Brazil who currently occupy top position on the group table, defeated El Salvador 1-0. Meanwhile, Russia, in second place, also proved their strength over the central American nation with a 4-0 beatdown. The Nigerian team will try to regain their honor, when they face El Salvador on Tuesday night. In other world cup fixtures, African champions, Angola, defeated Spain, while Kenya edged USA 2-1. Liberia, however, was not so lucky, as they lost to former champions, Turkey.
