akaraka-e1401988836391     Nigeria is slowly seeing a re-emergence of comic books with the recent launch of Akaraka. In the past we had Wale Adenuga with his Ikebe Super range, and Terror Muda in The Vanguard newspaper but slowly comics just disappeared. Akaraka means “destiny in our hands”. It is an online graphic comic that shares a fantasy tale of Nigerian demigods and fate. It basically refers to how we have individual and collective destinies and how we need helping hands in the journey of life. Akaraka is a creation of Baba Aminu Mustapha, written by Okoroafor Obiajulu and owned by the creators of Afrinolly mobile entertainment app. It is a story of courage, friendship, trust and believing in ourselves; there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Through hardwork and dedication, fate can be altered and destiny controlled. It is no news that the comic industry is booming worldwide with Marvel and DC comics leading the pack with X-men, Fantastic Four, Iron man etc. Most of the popular comics have gone further in terms of merchandising and turned into cartoon series and blockbuster movies. This is therefore an opportunity for the comic industry in Nigeria. It is coming at a time when people need to believe in themselves and not blame the government for their plight. You can read Akaraka on www.akarakacomic.com (it’s a bit graphic, not for kids in my own opinion).
