In our world today, recruiting the best talents for your organization is no longer enough, as there are high chances of employees leaving if the conditions are not favourable and suitable for them. We are no longer in the era where only employees are concerned about pleasing their employers.

Today, it has become a two-way process of employees pleasing the employers and employers pleasing the employees in turn. Our generation has birthed a unique set of highly capable individuals, who understand what they can offer and know what they want. Staff are no longer clueless about their needs, and would not hesitate to take their expertise elsewhere.
With this in mind, employers can do better to avoid losing capable hands and running the risk of constantly spending time, money, and effort looking for replacements. In addition, employee motivation and productivity usually take a hit when a company goes through several resignations.
Here’s how to Retain your Best Employees:
This should be an organization’s ultimate priority in the recruitment process. This is because no matter how well you treat someone who feels like he’s playing the wrong role, he’ll eventually get fed up and live. Review your hiring procedures, job advert, and interview questions to ensure you’re hiring people who not only fit into that role but enjoy the role.
-
Create A Good Onboarding Process
Now that you’ve hired the right persons, what’s next? Don’t just dump them into your organization to find their way. Conduct training to show them how things are done, introduce them to existing staff members, take them around the company, etc. This will not only make them feel welcomed but will make them have a good start in the organization. The first impression matters a lot.
-
Pay As Well As You Can Afford
You don’t have to break the bank to pay your employees, but ensure you are not paying them below standard. You can pay them according to their performances, experiences, and time spent in the organization. People are motivated to stay where they are well compensated. Offer health insurance, leave allowances, retirement benefits, etc. as much as you can afford.

Provide Growth Opportunities
If employees feel like they are boxed into a cage and don’t see a future within a company, they will seek opportunities outside. Give room for high performing employees to learn new skills, develop their careers, and try a more challenging role. Give them paid study leaves before exams and reimburse their tuition fees if you can. These things make them feel valued and endear them to the company.

Create A Balanced Work Environment
This is all-encompassing, and to achieve this, a lot of factors have to be taken into consideration. In creating a balanced work environment, employees should be free to express their thoughts, ideas, and opinions towards project developments, employees should be treated equally, irrespective of who they may know or are related to. Providing a healthy work environment entails ensuring that employees lead a balanced work/home life, because whether you like it or not, what goes on at home has a stronghold on employee productivity.
A good and balanced work environment is one where employees feel appreciated and valued, as against being deflated and talked down on. Talking down on employees typically kills their morale and demotivates them. Employees want to enjoy where they work, they want to feel included and respected. Bring them in on decisions, reward good performance no matter how little, celebrate birthdays, etc.
As Heather R. Huhman said, “Focus on facts and results rather than the process,”. Most employers are fixated on trying to know what the employees are doing all the time. Breathing down on their necks won’t help. Give them a clear direction, set goals to achieve, and watch them bring in results. Allow them to explore whatever process they deem fit, as long as they achieve the desired results.
Encourage input and feedbacks in your organization, by providing a platform where employees can express their opinions and thoughts about organizational management.
