A personal retreat is what we like to call ‘Quality Alone Time’. It is a great time to for introspection. Are you in need of a retreat away from the world and its distractions but short on cash? Below is a list of places you can consider escaping to.

International institute of tropical agriculture (IITA)

IITA is a popular tourist destination in Ibadan, Oyo State. Although its primary function is research for development, it also has a spacious leisure estate. This estate provides recreational facilities such as a poolside area with a snack bar, a 9-hole golf course, a safe playing area for kids, buffet services on Sundays, spacious dormitories, a conference hall, and a serene environment. ideal for a personal getaway.

Jacaranda Farms

On the Kachia-Kaduna Expressway in Kaduna State, this farm was created as a unity point for people of different religions to live and work in harmony. It has a resort with farming, recreational and hospitality facilities like a tennis court, a football field, a mini-zoo, restaurant, pottery resort, wooden and stone-built guest house, conference centre, a waterfall, fruit farm and many more.

St. Benedict Monastery

In Ewu-Esan, Edo State, this monastery is a great place for sober reflection. Though given to growing a monastic community, this monastery opens its doors to visitors and guests who require a retreat. It has a retreat facility called the Paxewu Retreat Centre, which is ultra-modern and can host up to 50 guests. It also has a bakery called Pax Bakery and an alternative medicine manufacturing Enterprise called the Pax Herbal Clinic and Research Laboratories (AKA Paxherbals).

Yankari Game Reserve

In Bauchi, Bauchi State, this is one of the perfect getaway spots in Nigeria. The accommodation ranges from student hostels to chalets and villas and it’s very affordable. Not to mention the attractions such as the Warm Springs, Caves, Wildlife, Hills, Museum, Restaurant and Swimming Pool (some of which attract a small fee). Sometimes the animals (Baboons, Warthog, Roans, etc.) roam into the living in quarters. Tours to other parts of Bauchi can be arranged during your stay at the resort. It’s ideal for staying long periods of a week or two from home.

Miango Rest Home (MRH)

This holiday spot is specifically for spiritual and physical renewal and it is ideal for retreats. Located in Miango, Bassa LGA, Plateau State, it is privy to the waterfalls and high hills. A tour can be organised if a reservation is booked on time. Within the MRH is a wide range of sporting equipment and facilities such as Tennis, Basketball and volleyball courts, mini 6-hole golf course amongst others. It also has a playground and playroom for children, a Teens room with PlayStation and DVD, access to DSTV, an internet room or hotspot access, laundry and catering services.

Ezeagu Tourist Complex

Consisting of a lake, a cave and a waterfall, this wonder of nature located in Akwa, Enugu, does not have an accommodation/resort for sleepovers. But with just a 30-minute drive from Enugu, Enugu State’s capital, it makes a perfect location for reflection and introspection. Depending on your budget, you can get affordable hotels like Obollo International Hotel, Golden Valley Hotel and Suites, or Golf Le-Meridien Hotel Enugu amongst others.

Obudu Mountain Resort

Formerly known as Obudu Cattle Ranch, this mountain resort located is located in Cross River State. The resort is well placed in a serene and temperate environment. If the cost of accommodation is beyond your budget, there are smaller hotels within the ranch which are extremely affordable. But be warned, these places may not have the standard and facilities of the mountain resort’s accommodations. While there, be ready to pay your way into accessing the other facilities at the resort. Facilities like the ranch, the cable car, the canopy walkway, the gym, etc. Regardless, it is a great place to go to for a personal retreat.
