Taking care of your team holds so much value for you as a business owner. Such values include increased productivity of your employees and also earning the loyalty of your employees. One of the most interesting stories about caring for one’s staff that I have heard was told by Simon Sinek, a British-American transformative speaker and author of five books, including The Infinite Game and Start With Why

One of his speeches always tells a story of his encounter with a man he called Noah, a Brewster. He met Noah during one of the times he spent at Four Seasons Hotel. According to his story, one of the things he found fascinating about Noah was how he went about his work at the hotel. This made Sinek tip Noah graciously.  He asked Noah what it was about his job at the Four Seasons hotel that he loved so much. Noah gladly told him that he loved his work at the hotel because of the way the Managers at the hotel seem to take special interests in him and his works at the hotel. The Managers, according to him, when they walk past will always stop to find out how he was doing and how the work was going. As Simon Sinek narrated, Noah told him that he also works at another hotel where the managers seem to be concerned only with the tasks that needed to be done and making sure he does it. To help you take care of your workers in order to give them reasons to speak good about your business, here are 5 ways you can get started now.

Trust Your Employees

One of the things that will inspire the confidence of your employees in you, as an employer is knowing that you trust them. Learning to trust your employees as a business owner involves you not doubting their words, unless they give you reasons to, of course. But, don’t go looking for reasons to disprove a report or statement from an employee. It is a motivation killer.  Also, trusting your employees entails trusting them with tasks and higher responsibilities. What most employers do is delegate tasks to members of their team and still, go about micromanaging them. When your employees know you trust them to get the job done and to get it done well, they go out of their way to not disappoint you for trusting in them.

Invest In The Growth Of Your Employees

As an employer, just as you would invest in your own personal and professional growth, you must be one that is committed to the personal and professional growth of your team members also. In addition, invest in their causes and interests. By so doing, your team members will become more loyal and committed to you and the tasks.

Create a safe environment for your employees

As an employer, you owe it a duty to your employees to ensure that your environment is a safe space where they would all be glad to come into and work every day. People will leave a workspace when they feel the work environment is not safe for them. In the United States, there is a trend that has come to be known as the great resignation. And this simply refers to the high rate of resignations witnessed since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Have a Just Cause

People are looking for what to believe in and would be glad to be part of a business that seems to be given to the promotion or attainment of a just cause. Give your employees one, and please make sure it is one that they would be willing to rally around.

Democratise Access To Failure

Most employers cut themselves slacks when they trip, but hold their team members to the highest level of accountability. As an employer, you have a responsibility to your employees to ensure you bring balance between normalizing failure and optimizing the value in failure.  Featured Image Source: Dreamstime
