There is joy in sharing, yeah we hear it all the time, but this does not mean you should expose yourself to unnecessary risk by being too nice. We all know that there are numerous diseases that can be transferred and spread from one person to another through the sharing of personal objects. Even with these, many people share just about anything with close friends and family to avoid embarrassment or quarrels. The fact remains that there are some things that should never be shared no matter how close you are with people. Some of these are:
1. Toothbrush: One will think that an object as personal as this one will not be shared by two or more people. However, it is surprising to know that some people still share one toothbrush. They believe that no disease can be contracted through sharing of the same toothbrush. What these set of people do not know is that infections such as mouth ulcers and bleeding gums can be transferred from one affected person to the other is the brush is not properly rinsed.
2. Towels: Face and body towels are also personal items that should not be shared with people as it comes in contact with your skin most of the time. Skin infections can easily be transferred through sharing of the same towel because the towel can serve as a good location for different microorganisms waiting to gain entrance into the body system.3. Underwear: Is it surprising that some people share underwear? It is common in hostels and dormitories where students operate with ‘if you cannot find yours, take someone else’s’. Underwear is a personal item that should never be shared no matter what.
4. Contact lens and eyeglasses: You should know that each person has a unique set of eyes and eye care equipment. Sharing the same contact lens or glasses is not advisable as it can damage your eyes since it is not made for you. Avoid allowing people to wear your lens just for fun as they can contaminate it unknowingly and we all know how sensitive the eyes are.
5. Sharp objects: Your blades, shaving sticks, hair clipper and other sharp objects should be for your personal use only. It should not be given out to other people to use as they can mistakenly cut themselves with it. Prevention, in this case, is better than cure.
