The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be seeking redemption against the Lone Stars following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
All is set for Nigeria’s first game of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Super Eagles will file out against the Lone Stars of Sierra Leone at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday, June 9, 2022, by 5 pm (WAT). New Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, will be hoping to win the game to start off his competitive campaign with the three-time African champions on a positive note after failing to win his first two games (international friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador) in charge of the team.

Nigeria will be banking on key players like SSC Napoli of Italy striker Victor Osimhen to gain all three points against their West African neighbours. Stars like Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal CF (Spain), AdemolaLookman of Leicester City (England), Calvin Bassey (Rangers, Scotland), and more, are also part of the squad. After the game, Nigeria will travel to Sao Tome and Principe for their second AFCON qualifiers game on June 13.
