The British-based Nigerian singer has been honoured by the British Queen for his services to the global music industry.

British-born Nigerian gospel singer Muyiwa Olarewaju has been awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Olarewaju was bestowed the prestigious honour by Prince William in an investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle on January 12, 2022.

The award-winning Nigerian singer who is also popular as a BBC One talent show judge and radio host was awarded an OBE after making the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 for his services to the global music industry. Muyiwa Olarewaju took to his Instagram page to express excitement over bagging the award with a caption: “For Services To Music.’’
 “Thank you to everyone that has relentlessly invested in this “young man”, you made it possible….A lecturer of mine told me no one is paying attention to you doing gospel music…..years later, here we are…. #grateful.”

Olarewaju is popular amongst television viewers as a vibrant performer and star of Songs of Praise’s Gospel Choir of the Year. He has played a huge role in popularizing gospel music globally through mixing traditional gospel music with soul, R&B, and POP, with elements from his origin (Africa), Asia, and the Caribbean. The Nigerian who hasn’t failed in bringing his unique music style to the world has toured the globe with legends such as Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder and worked with superstars like Bob Dylan and Lauryn Hill.
