  Ahead of Nigeria’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Sierra Leone on November 13, 2020, the Nigeria Football Federation has selected Benin, the capital of Edo State, to host the Nigerian national team. It will be recalled that the NFF were considering Benin or Asaba in Delta State for the all-important clash but over the weekend, it was confirmed that the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium which is newly refurbished, will host the three-time African champions. Since the stadium turned a new look, the game against Sierra Leone is set to be its first major event.

Though the primary reason for the renovation of the stadium is the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival, the Super Eagles will have to use the facility which is the first in the country to acquire the gadget for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), thanks to the government of the state. Commenting on this development, the Assistant Director, Media, for the NFF, Ademola Olajire, noted that the federation is working really hard to see to the success of the encounter as a monitoring team has already been set up to keep tabs on the security situation in the country in other to know if the fixture will be postponed or not.

The Super Eagles will aim to beat Sierra Leone over the two-leg encounter which might guarantee qualification for the AFCON after winning their first two games against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho to top the group table with the maximum six points.
