The Africa Business Heroes competition is designed to identify, celebrate, and support businesses doing great things in Africa. It’s open to SMEs of all sizes and will guarantee exposure for commercial entities that are doing groundbreaking work on the continent. This year’s edition of the program will be its sixth and will see competitors from across Africa slug it out for a share of the $1.5 million grant prize on offer.

Benefits

The Africa Business Heroes competition offers the following benefits to competing businesses:
  • The top 10 finalists get a share of the $1.5 million grant prize pool; the first-placed business will receive $300,000 in grants, while the first and second runners-up will be given $250,000 and 150,000 respectively
  • The top 10 businesses will receive PR exposure and media coverage
  • The competition gives participants access to networking opportunities, with the chance to connect with other entrepreneurs online and offline
  • Entrepreneurs will be mentored by business icons, investors, and business professionals
  • Be plugged into practical training programs covering financial management, marketing insights, IP law, and more
  • They will gain insights into their business through their storytelling and pitching efforts, assisted by the competition’s organizers

Eligibility

This competition is open to persons who meet these criteria:
  • Founder or co-founder of the business applying
  • An African citizen or the child or grandchild of an African
  • The company is registered, headquartered, and primarily active in an African country
  • The company has traction and at least 3 years of revenue
