Gone are the days when people stick to just one career path or job, with the continuing increase in technology, individuals have come to accept that they can have more than one career path. This means that such individuals have to be prepared and equipped to venture into multiple careers and opportunities.
A dual-career system or path simply means venturing into two related or unrelated careers at the same time; it also means looking at multiple fields outside of the academy.
Having dual careers is the growing trend in the late 20th century and early 21st century, whereas a career comprises the work activities that can be identified with a particular job or profession. These multiple careers can either be concurrent (where a worker has two simultaneous careers) or sequential (where a worker adopts a new career after having worked for some time in another career).
There are so many reasons why people take up dual careers, you may want to gain experience and skills in another field or want to earn more to finance your desired lifestyle. Regardless of your reasons, your life can change when you decide to venture into dual careers.
Below are some tips on how to create a balance between two career paths and flow effectively.
Dual Career Path Strategies
1. Think and Plan Early: One of the reasons why people are successful in running two careers is because they started early to plan and take action. Constant and active thinking about a dual career path tends to quicken or hasten your actions towards achieving them, it also gives you the peace of mind that you are working towards a career and building skill.
2. Do Some Honest Self-Reflection: Asking yourself what you want, what kind of work you want to do, where you want to live, what you want your life to look like, can be a clarifying experience for determining what kind of lifestyle you would like to pursue. In addition, it gives you a clearer view of what having dual careers looks like.
3. Identify your Skills and Interests: Once you can identify your interests and skills, you can go ahead to look into other careers that may suit your unique personal and career goals.

In addition, it is important to carefully consider your constraint, that is every barrier or challenge that might hinder you from venturing into a dual career, then go ahead to deal with such constraints, so that they do not come up later in your dual-career journey.
5. Seek for Mentoring or Professional Help: Some people are experts in handling dual careers or people who have already gone through the career paths that you wish to venture. Talk to them, and tell them you’d like to know more about their career path. Ask for help or advice as well. This will save you from impending mistakes in your dual-career journey.
6. Network: The importance of personal networks cannot be overemphasized; therefore, you must stay in touch with former colleagues from where you’ve worked before. Re-establish contact with them if you’ve fallen out of touch. These contacts can be good friends and a crucial first step in networking when you embark on a dual career journey or search for job opportunities.
7. Make a Career Action Plan: Having known these strategies, now is the time to make a plan about how to achieve experiences and skills in the other career areas you’d like to pursue.
Make a list of what you’d like to do and some possibilities for how you will achieve those goals. Make a list of your professional and personal network.
Going into dual careers might not be an easy task, as it comes with lots of commitments, discipline, and responsibilities; however, the results are worth every sacrifice made.
