Participating countries across the globe have begun preparations for the world’s first ever 32-team FIBA World Cup, scheduled to take place in China, from Saturday, August 31, 2019 to Sunday, September 15, 2019.
The games have been spread across 8 different venues in 8 cities across China.
Team Nigeria is not left out of the global rush to the WC, as the Nigeria Basketball Federation gears up to roll out WC preparation plans which are expected to go in line with the African Games.
Group of near-death?
D’Tigers were handed a difficult draw that placed the African champions within the grasp of the claws of death, having been grouped alongside Argentina, Russia and South Korea in Group B of the tournament.
One thing we know, however, is that our boys are proven survivors regardless of the circumstance or the team they are up against.
The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Musa Kida, is of the opinion that D’Tigers can progress from the group unhurt.
“We are a power house when it comes to the world stage and we are going to put up the kind of performance that will definitely shock the world.
“We are very confident of doing well; I have no predictions but can assure everybody that at the end, it will be our best outing ever.”
The basketball boss also revealed that the federation is in constant communication with D’Tigers coach, Alex Nwora, who himself has maintained good communication with the team’s players in Europe and America.
