This program is in line with the Commonwealth Foundation’s Strategic Plan 2021-2026, which is driven by the values and aspirations of the Commonwealth Charter. It will provide support for projects in specific areas of concern, particularly social and environmental themes.
Details Of The Program’s Focus Areas
These are the focus areas for the grant program, which the Commonwealth Foundation expects applicant’s projects to tackle: Health- Engage with the government to advocate universal health coverage
- Pushing for the right to health through improved healthcare delivery and solving problems that impede the achievement of this goal
- Encourage government to develop policies and programs that deal with the social predictors of health
- Inspire and encourage efforts to develop laws and policies that tackle environmental and climate threats
- Track the implementation of such laws or policies
- Deal with challenges to mitigating or adapting to climate change

Freedom of Expression
- Work with government to protect and support freedom of expression
- Encourage freedom of the press, and the development and implementation of freedom of expression
- Work with artists to promote freedom of expression
- Be a registered non-profit Civil Society Organization
- Has been actively engaging with government and in advocacy in the theme-area of their proposed project for at least two years
- the total amount requested by the organization should not be more than 70% of their total annual income
- Applicant’s average total annual over the past two years should be less than ₤2 million
- The proposed project should tackle one of the three themes mentioned earlier (health, environment and climate change, and freedom of expression)
- Proposals should be for projects that are expected to begin in the second half of 2022
