TECH TUESDAY: How to Reduce Data Usage on Chrome Browser for Android

Google Chrome browser for Android has an inbuilt Data Saver feature which compresses web pages on a server before they are downloaded to Chrome on your device. This reduces the data consumption on your end. The data compression happens on Google servers, and it ensures that less data gets downloaded on your device.
When Data Saver is enabled, it can substantially reduce your data consumption on the Chrome browser. It can cut down video streaming data by as much as 50% by showing you a lightweight version of the videos you watch.
How to Turn on Data Saver:
On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app
To the right of the address bar, press the action overflow button (three vertical dots) in the upper right corner.
Scroll down and click on Settings.
Click on Data Saver.
Switch the Data Saver setting ON.
To see how much data you’ve saved, on the Data Saver page, click Data Usage Breakdown, which shows you a list of the sites you’ve visited and how much data you’ve saved.
If you’re on a slow connection, Data Saver will simplify the page to save data and make the page load faster. To see the original page, tap Show Original.
If you’re browsing secure pages (addresses that start with https://), or browsing in private with Incognito Mode, Data Saver will not compress data.
